Do It Yourself Kitchen Cabinet Install

Is a diy kitchen cabinet install a difficult task? It can be without the proper instruction and proper tools. Let’s first talk about proper instruction. Most people, myself included look at this as a pretty daunting task and at first thought want to hire a contractor to do the installation. When researching online though, I have found multiple instructional videos and articles mapping out the whole process. With so many online resources why do I need to hire a contractor?

There are only a few considerations that need to be made, do I have the money and do I have the time? Getting past these two issues will likely be the biggest task at hand. Considering there are many websites that are more authoritative, let me not waste your time. I am only going to start you off in the right direction.

Consider the following as a starting point to your diy project. There are two types of kitchen cabinets, the ready to install and custom made kitchen cabinets. If you choose the ready to install type, then obviously the task will be a bit easier and much more cost effective. If you go with the latter, expect to spend more money and more time. This option may warrant the advice of an actual contractor. Going with the first option, you then need to decide if you want painted, metal, or unfinished kitchen cabinets. Me, I like the unfinished option so I can paint them myself. I am not too excited about metal cabinets simply because of the noise.

Next, you should think about the hardware that will be part your ready-made cabinets, be sure all your hardware is in the box before beginning. Make sure you read and understand the instructions provided. Many times the doors will come separate in the box so make sure they are all there and not damaged. If painting is your thing, don’t forget tape and that much needed drop cloth to protect those areas you don’t want painted. Another consideration to make are accessories, will any be necessary.

This may be a no brainer, but will the kitchen counter tops need to be replaced? If not, then make sure the new cabinets match the rest of the kitchen. Whatever direction you decide to go, the diy (do it yourself) route or the custom kitchen route, please make sure you take a look at some instructional videos before starting. Remember read and understand the instructions. These things are the keys to your diy kitchen cabinet install.
